Update from Rachel Rubin Wolf | Spring 2011

Wow! I am constantly amazed at the amount of great art work out there being done by our Splash community! Each time I judge the entries for a book I find some WoW artists that I had never seen before! Keep it up!

We are busier than ever! Splash 12 is off to the printer (to be published this May), and the judging for Splash 13 is nearly complete. In addition, Splash’s younger sister publication, Strokes of Genius: The Best in Drawing is seeing it’s 3rd edition in production, while Strokes of Genius 4 has begun its call for entries.

Art is alive and well in America even if the economy is uncertain and the national budget is in crisis. People in all walks of life still love to be creative, to enjoy nature and to express themselves. Art has flourished in every culture for as long as humans have existed — from the 30,000 year old cave paintings to 20th century abstract expressionism. (Some would even argue that the cave art is quite a bit more sophisticated!) Even in societies that squelched art and individual expression, such as the Soviet bloc of the 20th century, underground artistic expression has continued to develop like determined blades of grass sprouting out of dry urban concrete.

Splash is not just a book but a testament to the human creative drive. Over the years we have published many a painting from artists over 80 years old, and a few close to 100 years old. Art keeps the spirit young.

All best,

Rachel Rubin Wolf
